The 7 year payoff was in reference to my BMW, not the VW Jetta... I think the Jetta was paid off on a 36 month loan (after nearly 10 months of leasing it).

I can't say I've learned to never buy new, as I traded in the Jetta when buying another new car, but the one valuable thing I did learn from the BMW experience was to never ever buy another expensive car.

And from buying it -- and having to refinance it because the payments at the start were nearly $800/month for the first two years -- it makes the sub $300/month car payment I have now feel like nothing. In comparison anyway...

7 years? I bought a new car straight out of college too. I was able to pay it off much quicker, but I learned never buy new. All of my future cars will be used.
