I think the Jetta was paid off on a 36 month loan (after nearly 10 months of leasing it). I can't say I've learned to never buy new, as I traded in the Jetta when buying another new car, but the one valuable thing I did learn from the BMW experience was to never ever buy another expensive car. And from buying it -- and having to refinance it because the payments at the start were nearly $800/month for the first two years -- it makes the sub $300/month car payment I have now feel like nothing. I can’t say I’ve learned to never buy new, as I traded in the Jetta when buying another new car, but the one valuable thing I did learn from the BMW experience was to never ever buy another expensive car.
