		<description>My late husband was on that payment schedule, and you&#039;re right, it can really throw you off.

What we did was use a couple of those &quot;extra&quot; checks to get to the point where we were using funds from &quot;one month back&quot;.  We changed our direct deposit to go to savings instead of checking; then set up auto transfers on the first and fifteenth to move 1/2 of expenses to checking.

So essentially, you are paying the mortgage and first of the month bills out of the LAST check last month and saving the first check THIS month to pay the mid month bills.

After a couple of those &#039;stutter step&#039; checks, you have a full month&#039;s pay in savings - which is also a &#039;baby&#039; or &#039;immediate&#039; emergency fund, too!
