I feel your pain here - my current husband is a quality contractor (carpenter). He only works on referrals - no advertising as most good ones do in our area. Phone book people give you phone book work as a general rule - unless the outfit is huge and long service life.

Roofer's they are not contractors so to speak they are bottom feeders in the contract world - not all but most. They should never be left at your home alone. As you now know. They should always provide insurance verification and you should be able to obtain money for your losses and damage - all of it.

Next time, no matter the project - ask around - get referrals - the prices may be slightly higher, but in the end - you will have the quality work and respect you deserve.

I feel your pain... I had my roof done in December 2 days after Christmas and they replaced all 4 skylights also. One of the skylights has a leak... not a water leak - a wind leak... everytime it is windy out, I get a coating of dust and leaves deposited on my kitchen table below the skylights! They think I'm high when I call and complain! Atleast it doesn't leak water!

I want to say that I really enjoy reading your blogs. I don't recall now how I found you... but you are only a couple years younger than me and you have been incredibly inspiring. Your stories of strategizing how to get out of debt are great and have become a great help to me. I'm looking at being out of debt, except for my mortgage by next summer (I already do the 13th payment a year on that and only have 13 years left of a 30 year loan - but it will probably start paying down really fast after my credit debt goes away.).

Anyway... thanks for the inspiration... and I hope your plumbing situation resolves itsself in a satisfactory manner!
