Here’s another rip-off. Only those that took out a loan after 1-1-07 can deduct the cost of PMI through 12-31-10.
I took my loan out in 8-05…Look up P.L. 110-142. Newest version section 3 (b) doesn’t say anything about when you took out a loan; but IRS Code Section 163 Section H (iii) says the loan must be after 1-1-07. Now we have two classes of homeowners who pay PMI. Deductable and Non-Deductable. In addition to the PMI ripoff, I am on double secret probation…no tax break for me. I’ve contacted Countywide, the IRS, and my congressional delegation (who say they will “look into it”. Everyone understands the problem; but no one seems able to fix it. If enough write or call about this now…we may have some hope. In my case, it will cost me about $1,000 in extra taxes!
